Memphis is a city in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of Shelby County. The city is located on the fourth Chickasaw Bluff, south of the confluence of the Wolf and Mississippi rivers.

Memphis had a population of 652,717 in 2016, making it the second largest city in the state of Tennessee after Nashville. Memphis is located in the southwest corner of Tennessee at 35°7′3″N89°58′16″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 324.0 square miles, of which 315.1 square miles is land and 9.0 square miles, or 2.76%, is water.
