It is also referred to as the "Emerald City" and as "Track Town, USA". The Nike corporation had its beginnings in Eugene. In 2021, the city will host the 18th Track and Field World Championships.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 43.74 square miles, of which 43.72 square miles is land and 0.02 square miles is water. Eugene is at an elevation of 426 feet .
